U-21 'C' Semi-final: v Bodyke, @Tulla (10/04/2009)

Unfortunately Newmarket came off second best in this highly entertaining 'C' championship semi final. There was little between the sides for most of the first half before Newmarket hit a purple patch and scored five unanswered points followed by a goal shortly after by Liam Clancy. This left Newmarket in a commanding half time position on a scoreline of 1-13 to 1-07. Bodyke, however responded in style after the break and soon the sides were level. With only ten minutes gone, Bodyke goaled from a 21 metre free and regained the lead, which they never surrendered. Newmarket continued to press and with only 7 minutes remaining the deficit was 4 points. Bodyke finished the stronger and added points to finish the game winners on a high scoreline of 3-20 to 1-19.

U-21 'A' Rd 1: v Broadford/O'Callaghan's Mills @Sixmilebridge (17/03/09)

A 4-10 to 1-07 victory over Broadford/O'Callaghan's Mills sees Newmarket through to the quarter-final of the U-21 'A' Championship. Newmarket were the first to score with a Colin Ryan point from a 65 quickly followed by a goal from Michael Cusack. Another Colin Ryan point from a free and a goal from Darren Duggan saw Newmarket stretch their lead to 2-2 to 0-1. Broadford/O'C.Mills hit 5 wides before Darren Duggan scored a point from a free on the sideline. Mikey McInerney pointed from play and Broadford/O'C.Mills followed this with two points (1 free). David Liddy scored another point to leave the score 2-5 to 0-3 at half time.

Broadford/O'Callaghan's Mills came out much stronger in the second half and the set the pace with a goal and a point from play. Eoin Hayes pointed twice to increase the lead to 6 points. Broadford/O'Callaghan's Mills converted two frees and another point from play left only 3 points between the teams. A Colin Ryan point from a free put Newmarket up 4 points again. With only ten minutes remaining Newmarket scored a crucial goal. Enda Barrett sent in a ball to the corner where Damien Power collected and struck the net. Broadford didnt recover from this and indeed didnt score for the remainder of the game. Newmarket had further points from James Liddy and Colin Ryan (65). The last score of the game was a goal that went all the way to the net from a Colin Ryan free on the half way line.

U-21 'C' Rd 1: v Clooney @ Kilkishen (17/03/09)

Kilkishen was the venue for the U-21 C match against Clooney on St.Patrick's Day. Newmarket enjoyed a comfortable win on a scoreline of 2-16 to 0-2. Cillian Pender opened the scores with a point from play. Gary Ryan scored 4 points from frees during the first half with Kieran O'Connor and Noel Frawley also contributing to the scoreboard. Clooney scored their points from frees.

Newmarket led the way again in the second half and were in full control. Newmarket's defence didn't ease up and they held Clooney score less for the second half. Indeed, Eanna McInerney, in the full back line scored a point mid way through the second half. This victory means they will play the winners of Tulla and Scariff. This game is set for April 10th.
