Weekend Round Up: September 20th 2009
A very disappointing weekend was had on the GAA front. The Junior A's were defeated by the narrowest of margins in their replay against Cratloe and are now out of the Championship. They started the better side and led by 5 points. Cratloe soon closed the margin and Newmarket went in one point up at half time (0-8 to 1-4). Newmarket got the better start again and scored the opening 4 points of the second half. Cratloe were not giving in and answered with 3 points. The sides continued to exchange points but a goal for Cratloe brought the sides level with only 2 minutes remaining. A converted free in injury time, saw Cratloe take the lead for the first and most important time of the game. Shortly after, the whistle blew and with it, ended Newmarket's campaign of 09. Final Score: N-on-F: 0-15 Cratloe: 2-10

A half an hour later at the same venue, the Senior Camogies lined out for their Championship semi-final against Kilmaley. Kilmaley got the better start and had registered 2-2 on the scoreboard before Newmarket, through a Ruth Kaiser point, secured their first score of the game. Kilmaley remained on top for the rest of the half and held a 2-06 to 1-04 lead at half time. From the beginning of the second half Newmarket fought back and were soon on level terms before edging in front courtesy of a Roisin McMahon point. Victory looked to be Newmarkets when a slender one point lead was held entering injury time. However Newmarkets Championship ambitions for 2009 were dealt a fatal blow when Kilmaley goaled shortly before the final whistle. Final Score: N-on-F: 2-9 Kilmaley: 3-8
