Junior A Hurling League Final 2009
On Wednesday, July 28th Newmarket had plenty reason to celebrate after winning the Junior A league title in great style for the first time since 1998.. They defeated St.Joseph's D/B on a scoreline of 2-19 to 0-10. The game was deferred at the weekend due to the death of Fr.Michael McNamara,PP of Doora Barefield. Joseph's opened the scoring and the sides were evenly matched for 20 minutes. Leading 0-10 to 0-06 points at half time, Newmarket were yet to play with the aid of a strong breeze. Shane O'Leary's goal put 8 between the sides and Newmarket continued to dominate in most areas. Ronan McCormack scored Newmarket's second goal and sealed victory for the team. Captain Tomás Ryan accepted the trophy. Well done to all involved.
