County Final:

Newmarket-on-Fergus 2-11 Kilmaley 0-10.

Newmarket on Fergus were crowned Clare Senior Camogie Champions in Cusack Park after beating Kilmaley. This is the first county final Newmarket have appeared in and won for five years. The victory stopped Kilmaley in their bid for their three in a row camogie titles. Newmarket looked in control from the very start and it took Kilmaley over ten minutes to get their first score from a Claire Mc Mahon free. Prior to that Newmarket scored through Niki Kaiser and Aine O Brien. An inspirational save from Carol Toomey gave Newmarket further confidence. Iris Kaiser got the game's first goal with over a quarter of an hour gone with a blistering ground strike following a good pass from Sharon Mc Mahon. Niki Kaiser pointed after and Newmarket faded out of it for most of remainder of the half. Kilmaley had a lot of scoring chances in that period and only took two - both of which were frees from Claire Mc Mahon. Iris Kaiser got her second goal of the game after an Aine O Brien free dropped in and Kilmaley goalkeeper Edel Griffey batted it out to Kaiser who took her opportunity very well. Kilmaley had a penalty at the end of the half. Claire Mc Mahon stepped up, miss-hit it and it went wide. At half time the sides went in 2-05 to 0-03  in favour of Newmarket. Niki Kaiser got the first point of the half, again. Newmarket let Kilmaley back into the game with Kilmaley getting five points and Newmarket getting none in the space of ten minutes. Sharon Mc Mahon got a important score which lifted the team. Iris Kaiser got a point following a superb catch. Kilmaley responded with a free from Claire Mc Mahon. Deirdre Cassidy got her first score of the game after a neat pass from Sharon Mc Mahon. Claire Mc Mahon and Aine O Brien swapped points. Carol Toomey pulled off two astounding saves at the finish to ensure Newmarket were county champions. The only fault from a Newmarket point of view was their indiscipline. Newmarket now play Mallow of Cork in the Munster Intermediate Championship. The Munster Intermediate Cup is named after the great, late Newmarket man Kevin "Trixie" Toomey which gives even more incentive to win. After the game captain Ruth Kaiser accepted the Mc Mahon Cup from County Board Munster Club Delegate and Newmarket Camogie Club President Bridie O Looney.

Best for Newmarket were: Carol Toomey, Roisin Mc Mahon who were rock solid at the back, Erica Minouge and Iris Kaiser.

Best for Kilmaley were: Claire Mc Mahon and Katie Cahill at times.

Newmarket lined out as follows: 1: Carol Toomey 2: Aoife Griffin 3: Jane O Leary 4: Carol O Leary 19: Aimee Mc Inerney 8: Roisin Mc Mahon 15: Carol Kaiser 9: Joanne Walsh 14: Ruth Kaiser (C) 11: Sharon Mc Mahon 0-01 5: Erica Minouge 0-01 12: Aine O Brien 0-05 0-01 45 0-02 frees 13: Deirdre Cassidy 0-01 6: Iris Kaiser 2-01 17: Niki Kaiser 0-02

Semi final 18/09/10

Newmarket on Fergus booked their place in The PK Coaches Senior Championship Camogie Final following a 2-10 to 1-05 victory over Clooney Quin. Newmarket were slight favourites going into the game and were the better team on the day. Aine O Brien was the first to get on the score-sheet from a free with just under a minute gone, she followed up with another free a minute later. Deirdre Murphy got Clooney's first score from a placed ball and followed that with two consecutive frees. Aine O Brien replied with a free with a quarter of an hour gone. Clooney's Mary Clune went off injured following a collision with Carol O Leary. Play was stopped for about three minutes due to Clune's injury which appeared to be her hand. Sharon Mc Mahon got her forst score of the day with twenty minutes gone. Niki Kaiser got the first goal of the game after a good pass from Aine O Brien towards the end of the half and followed up with her first point. Clooney's Aisling Corbett got the last score of the half, shortly after Kaiser's point. At half time the scoreline read Newmarket on Fergus 1-05 Clooney Quin 0-04. Newmarket made one positional change for the second half which the management decided to move Erica Minouge to wing forward and Carol Kaiser to wing back. Niki Kaiser got the first score of the second half with eight minutes gone. Deirdre Murphy got Clooney's first score of the half a minute later. Jessica O Neill got Clooney's only goal of the game towards the middle of the second half. Sharon Mc Mahon got her last point of the game with seventeen minutes gone. Erica Minouge got the last goal of the game after a 45 from Aine O Brien dropped short. Niki Kaiser put The Blues further ahead with a point. Aine O Brien got the last two scores of the game, both from placed balls. Newmarket will now play Kilmaley or Sixmilebridge in the County Final. The game was played in Clareabbey and after years of heatrbreak in Claareabbey for Newmarket camogie, it looks like the "Curse of Clareabbey" is finally over.

04/09/10 Newmarket-on-Fergus 2-13 Sixmilebridge1-09

Both sides had already qualified for the semi-finals before the throw in, but it was the winner who topped the group. The winner turned out to be Newmarket on Fergus. Sixmilebridge were favourites going into the game but a game isn't always won by the favourites. Both sides had injuries going into the match. Sharon Mc Mahon got the first score of the game and Niki Kaiser followed up with another point and Newmarket were looking good. Iris Kaiser got two in the space of three minutes to put Newmarket eight points up. Sixmilebridge had a great goal chance but Carol Toomey saved. Naomi Carroll got Sixmilebridge's first score of the game after nine minutes. Newmarket's Joanne Walsh replied with a point a minute after. Chloe Morey got her first score of the game from a placed ball. Roisin Mc Mahon got a good point halfway through the first half and it was a point in which Mc Mahon did good work. Chloe Morey got her second point from placed balls. Newmarket replied with a point from Sharon Mc Mahon. Morey put another free over the bar. Newmarket finished off the half with scores from Iris and Carol Kaiser. Chloe Morey got the last point of the half from another placed ball. At half time the sides went in Newmarket on Fergus 2-07 Sixmilebridge 0-05. It took eleven minutes for the first score of the second half and it came from Ruth Kaiser after good work from Iris and Niki Kaiser. Rachel O Halloran replied with a goal for Sixmilebridge. Jenny Kelly got her first point of the day after thirteen minutes but Naomi Carroll replied with a point. Chloe Morey got another point from a free with a quarter of an hour gone. Sharon Mc Mahon got a point three minutes after which was followed by a pointed free from Aine O Brien. The last scores of the game came from Chloe Morey from a free, Jenny Kelly and Sharon Mc Mahon. Naomi Carroll got the last point of the game for Sixmilebridge. At the final whistle it finished Newmarket on Fergus 2-13 Sixemilebridge 1-09. Following today's game the semi-finals are Newmarket-on-Fergus v Clooney/Quin and Kilmaley v Sixmilebridge in a repeat of last years county final.

30/07/10: Newmarket-on-Fergus 4-20 Tulla/Bodyke 0-00

The scoreline says it all. Newmarket would have been expected to win easily enough before the game started but not this easily. It took just under eight minutes before the Blues got on the scoreboard and it was Jenny Kelly who got Newmarket's first score of the 2010 Championship. A minute later and Kelly got another score, a score which resulted from good blocking by Roisin Mc Mahon and Deirdre Cassidy and a good pass by Niki Kaiser. After good passing from Aimee Mc Inerney, Roisin Mc Mahon and Ruth Kaiser, Niki Kaiser finished off with her second point of the evening. Shortly after that point after good work from Deirdre Cassidy, Iris Kaiser finished off with a goal. At the moment, spectators were beginning to think that the game was over. It was nearly halfway through the game and Joanne Walsh won a free. Aine O Brien took that free it dropped in around the goal and Sarah Mc Inerney finished it with a blistering ground strike that went into the net. Towards the end of the half, Newmarket scored points through Aine O Brien, Jenny Kelly and Iris Kaiser. The last score of the half was from Deirdre Cassidy after good work from Erica Minouge and Ruth Kaiser. The sides went in at half time and the score was Newmarket-on-Fergus 2-09 Tulla/Bodyke 0-00.Half time saw the introduction of Aoife Griffin for Joanne Walsh who was doubtful before the match due to injury. Aine O Brien got the first point of the half with just over ten seconds gone. Ruth Kaiser got her first point of the evening with just under three minutes gone. Cassidy goaled after just four minutes. Aine O Brien pointed a free a few minutes later. Cassidy, N Kaiser and O Brien scored points to put the score at 3-15 to 0-00. On the twelve minute mark saw the introduction of Aislinn Keogh for Jenny Kelly. O Brien pointed a free and after that free saw Caroline Feehily coming on for Clodagh Lawlor. Cassidy then got her second goal of the evening with fourteen minutes gone. Newmarket only got four points for the remainder of the match and those points came from Aine O Brien, Sarah Mc Inerney, O Brien again and Cassidy. This game saw the Senior Championship Debuts of five players and they were Clodagh Lawlor, Niki Kaiser, Jenny Kelly, Aislinn Keogh and Caroline  Feehily. Tulla/Bodyke were both in intermediate last year and amalgamated to play senior and the standard of those two clubs on Friday 30 of July was pathetic. Newmarket will be disappointed with their fifteen wides. Two Newmarket players Catriona Mc Mahon and Jane O Leary didn't touch the ball for the whole sixty minutes and I guess that says it all. Newmarket still have to play Sixmilebrige and Wolfe Tones in the group.

Best for Newmarket on a day when anyone could have been picked: Ruth Kaiser, Deirdre Cassidy and Erica Minouge.

1: C Mc Mahon 2: J Walsh 3: J O Leary 4: C Lawlor 5: A Mc Inerney 6: E Minouge 7: C O Leary 8: R Mc Mahon 9: R Kaiser 0-01 10: A O Brien 0-08 5 f 11: D Cassidy 2-04 12: N Kaiser 0-02 13: S Mc Inerney 1-01 14: I Kaiser 1-0115: J Kelly 0-03 Subs: 18: A Griffin for Walsh H/T 17: A Keogh for Kelly 11:46 16: C Feehily for Lawlor 13:10 15: J Kelly for N Kaiser
