Championship Rd 3: v Sixmilebridge @ Wolfe Tones Camogie Field 05/09/09:

by Páraic McMahon

                                 Newmarket-on-Fergus 2-12  Sixmilebridge 3-07

It was a lucky win for The Blues against big rivals The Bridge. The match was played in Wolfe Tones Camogie Field in Shannon and the referee was Kevin Walsh from Wolfe Tones. Newmarket were boosted by the return of the travelling duo of Iris Kaiser and Sharon Mc Mahon. .It was a tough exciting game, although Newmarket didn't play their best with some key players not playing on top form. The Bridge however took advantage of this and nearly won the game but a late late point from Dee Cassidy won the game for Newmarket and that made it three from three in The PK Travel Senior Camogie Championship. Sixmilebridge will be disappointed with the defeat but they have a young side and may dominate Clare Camogie for a few years because they have been very strong at underage camogie in the Banner for the last few years but so have Newmarket.Best for Sixmilebridge were Goalkeeper Aine Mc Namara, Aiveen O Shea, , Niamh Corry  Noleen Neylon and player of the game Chloe Morey. Best for Newmarket were Sharon Mc Mahon, Roisin Mc Mahon, Carol O Leary and Joanne Walsh. There was bad news in the Newmarket camp because  substitute Erica Minouge who's just back from injury came on and twisted her knee. Goalkeeper Patricia O Grady missed the first half due to her invlovement with the minor hurlers, she came on in goals in the second half which resulted in Sinead Cullinan going to midfield and Gemma Mc Inerney being substituted.

Newmarket: Sinead Cullinan, Carol O Leary, Jane O Leary, Catriona Mc Mahon, Joanne Walsh, Aimee Mc Inerney, Iris Kaiser, Roisin Mc Mahon, Gemma Mc Inerney, Dee Cassidy, Ruth Kaiser, Aine O Brien, Carol Kaiser, Sharon Mc Mahon, Claire Arthur.

Subs Patricia O Grady for G Mc Inerney, Mary Higgins(C) for Arthur, Erica Minouge for Cassidy and Dee Cassidy for Minouge inj.
